NEW BIOMETRIC HOLOGRAM PLUGS THE DIGITAL HOLE IN SECURE  ID

Ver-tec’s technology combines analogue recording with  digital data to defeat the counterfeiters

A new  ‘biometric hologram’ that defies digital counterfeits and can be produced in seconds is set to revolutionise the way that brands are protected and security ID cards created.

Cambridge-based Ver-tec Security Systems have been quick to recognise   the threats and vulnerabilities in a booming digital age. The company has developed the patented BIOMETRIGRAM®, enabling any form of digital data  to be quickly and cost effectively stored in a hologram, which can then be machine read at speed.  For verification, a digital signal (for example from a biometric or barcode) must be read in conjunction with an analogue signal, stored covertly in the recording material. Unless both signals match, verification will not be possible.

“What makes this technology so special" said Ben Bowmaker, founder of  Ver-tec, "is its range and flexibility of application and the inter-dependence of this analogue and digital encrypted data. The BIOMETRIGRAM® is the first secure machine-readable hologram capable of high volume production.  Its brightness makes it an excellent alternative to the embossed holograms   found on items such as passports, driving licences and secure access cards. The big issue with most security technologies is that they rely heavily on digitally stored and encoded information that is relatively easy to counterfeit, particularly with the rapid proliferation of low cost software and hardware technologies.  The BIOMETRIGRAM® overcomes this increasing threat by combining information in two different formats. This is a significant strength and plugs the digital hole in the security document market.”

Ver-tec has developed both their patented production systems and their machine reader verification hardware, creating an integrated system for the security document market.

A potential application for the future could be high value personalised tickets for major international events such as the Olympics or the World Cup. Biometric information and an individual ticket reference could be incorporated into the ticket and checked against a register of members or police records database, providing additional security.

Other applications include track and trace brand protection and packaging solutions.

Ver-tec is currently pursuing a number of opportunities in conjunction with system integrators and government agencies both in the US and Europe.

VER-TEC IN SINGAPORE

CEO to speak at major event in March 2005

Ver-tec's CEO has been invited to speak in Singapore at the Global Security Asia Conference 2005 www.globalsecasia.com.
